Welcome to Tangerine Street
Tangerine Street is a must-see tourist stop with a colorful mix of one-of-a-kind boutiques, unique restaurants, eclectic museums, quaint bookstores, and exclusive bed-and-breakfasts. The Fortune Caf, situated in the middle of this charming collection of shops and cafs on Tangerine Street, is a Chinese restaurant unlike any other because, well, to be honest, the fortunes found in the cookies all come true
MIS-FORTUNE: Emma, a waitress at The Fortune Caf will do anything to avoid opening a fortune cookie. Each fortune is rumored to somehow magically come true. Being a girl grounded in reality, she doesnt have time for that kind of nonsense. But when trying to prevent a food fight at the caf, Emma accidently cracks open a fortune cookie: Look around, love is trying to catch you. If there is one thing that Harrison, her former best friend in high school is good at, its catching her unaware.
LOVE, NOT LUCK: Lucy has always been lucky . . . until her parents meet her fiancs parents at a disastrous lunch at The Fortune Caf, and she breaks her lucky jade necklace. Even worse, her fortune cookie reveals that True love is for the brave, not the lucky. How is she supposed to read that? Shes always considered it lucky how she met her fianc. But after breaking her necklace, Lucys luck takes a dive. And when her fianc dumps her, the only person she can turn to is Carter, the unluckiest guy she knows.
TAKEOUT: Stella is content in her new life of taking over her moms jewelry shop. No more boyfriend to worry about, and as long as she stays busy, she doesnt have to dwell on her non-existent love life. When Evan comes into the shop with his young daughter, Stella is charmed. But she is reluctant to complicate her straightforward life, so when she reads her fortune after ordering takeout from The Fortune Caf, she completely ignores it. After all, how can a fortune as vague as Do the thing you fear and love is certain, apply to her?
My Thoughts
The Fortune Cafe is a really cute book with three mini love stories in it. The book is divided into three different parts, and they are each different stories but all of the characters revolve around this one Chinese restaurant where the fortune cookies are rumored to be magic. And each of the stories has a cameo of who the next main character will be. I really liked seeing how the stories lightly overlapped like that. Once I saw who the second story was about and I remembered her from the first one, I kept reading the second story trying to guess who the third story would feature. It was really fun. It kind of reminded me of a Love, Actually type of movie with a bunch of different mini storylines going on and sometimes they cross over with other ones.

Emma, Lucy and Stella are the three ladies in The Fortune Cafe. I think I liked Emma's story the best. Hers was about a guy that had a crush on her in high school suddenly coming back into her life. It was so cute. I also really liked the luck theme going through "Lucky" Lucy's story. The stories are not pure fluff though. They each have their own unique hardships going on. One of the three girls starts out engaged and gets dumped by her jerk of a fiance. And another one has the stress of caring for her abusive and mentally ill mother. The stories each felt like glimpses into the real lives of these women.

You can't help but root for their happy endings. I really enjoyed The Fortune Cafe. It is a feel good book that is sure to put a smile on your face. Emma Stella and Lucky Lucy are each great characters and any one of them can easily turn out to be your favorite. This book made me want to go out and get some fortune cookies to see what my fortunes would be. The Fortune Cafe is feel good fun that I think fans of young adult and adult contemporaries will easily enjoy.

               YA Review
The Romeo Club by Rebekah L Purdy
Expected Publication Date: April 8, 2014
Age Group: YA CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE
Source: eARC from Publisher The Romeo Club 1600x2400
Summary:
THE ROMEO CLUB is Hitch meets The Secret of My Success.
What happens when you agree to help your brother de-nerdify so he can catch the attention of the popular Chloe Anders, and to everyone's surprise, he actually lands her?

And what if his equally geeky friends come running with girl wish lists of their own, offering money for your services?

Well, if youre sixteen-year-old, Delyla Denson, then you start The Romeo Club. A secret club where shell teach these guys how talk, act, and be cool around girls. Its a win-win situation.
Shell get enough money for the awesome prom dress shes had her eye on, and the guys, well, theyll get dates and maybe learn how to do something other than beat the next level on their video games.

There are only two problems with this plan. One, her quarterback/track star boyfriend is getting jealous of how much time shes spending away from him and decides to try and figure out whats going on. And two, Delyla is kind of falling for her brothers BFF, Trey who shes been hanging out with a lot more. And who thanks to her help, has caught the attention of the beautiful, perfect, and popular, Portia Rickard. With Portia and Trey heating up, Delyla realizes that maybe the person shes meant to be with has been in front of her all this time.

But falling for Trey means shell have to take drastic measures including sabotage, with a capital S.
My Thoughts The Romeo Club is a super cute match making book. Perfect for lounging by the pool or on the beach. Delyla helps her brother get a new look and the confidence to ask out his popular crush and it works like a charm. Suddenly his three geeky friends all want help from his younger, but popular sister. Delyla needs money to buy a prom dress so she quickly starts up the Romeo Club to help out her brothers geeky friends who have never been kissed or even asked a girl out. But Delyla is convinced that with the right clothes and some romeo lessons that she can land each of them their crushes.

I really liked getting to know each of the three guys. They were hilarious and adorable. Delyla is like one of the guys too. She gets along great with her brother and all of his friends because she is secretly a huge dork too. She loves playing all kinds of video games, but people at school don't know about that because she is dating a popular jock and she is a soccer jock herself. I liked how she didn't fit into any of the high school stereotype boxes. She was smart, played sports and was a huge gamer.

Throughout the romeo club Delyla starts to get closer and closer to one of the guys. The book is a little predictable but it was satisfying because what you want to happen, does happen. I liked that. If it was full of huge twists and turns, then I probably wouldn't have gotten the outcome that I wanted from the start. The Romeo Club is a funny and super cute romantic read. It is a feel good book that I think is a perfect spring or summer beach read.blue4

Roanoke Vanishing by Auburn Seal
Series: Vanishing Series #1
Paperback, 323 pages
Published October 31st 2013Roanoke Vanishing cover
Genres: Adult/ New Adult Historical
Source: ecopy from Author

Summary:

What if the only thing standing between you and certain death was the spirit of someone long dead?

Avery Lane, a plucky grad student, is determined to discover the fate of the colonists from sixteenth century Roanoke. Nearly one-hundred twenty souls vanished without a trace in August 1597 and their demise has remained a mystery to world's historical experts. Aided by a ghost from that time, Avery is certain that she is closer than ever to the truth, but soon discovers that some people will stop at nothing to keep the secret buried. Can Avery find the answers she seeks before its too late?

My Thoughts

I am so fascinated by all things history, and Roanoke is a special area of fascination for me. I found myself stepping into Avery's shoes and living through her in Roanoke Vanishing because she loved Roanoke even more than me. I loved her passion for history. The historical mystery aspect of this book was so wonderfully done. It made for a riveting and kind of mystical story. The book alternates back and forth between present day with Avery as the main character and the past with Elinor Dare as the main character. I really liked that in the present we watched Avery try and solve the mystery of what really happened to the people of Roanoke, and in the past we got to see the authors rendition of what happened to the colony. It was so detailed and well done.

Avery is dedicated and so focused on her goal. I really liked that we got to see so much of her thought process while she was trying to solve the mystery. She is a history grad student and she is working on her final thesis. She comes up with a theory of Roanoke that the colonists were actually a group of separatists fleeing from England in search of religious freedom, and her theory spawned from that. Her professor shot down her idea and was a complete jerk about it. But she doesn't give up. And she even gets help from the original Elinor Dare. I loved that mystical "ghost" element thrown in. It was really cool.

The mystery is pretty intense in this book. Not only is Avery trying to track down what happened. A mystery that NO ONE in the historical community has been able to solve, but she has some super scary people breaking into her house and threatening her.

My only tiff with this book is with some of the secondary characters. Avery's friend Jen. I loved her at first, but then she did something that completely annoyed me. I get where she was coming from, but still I just don't know why she would do what she did. But my real problem was with Ethan. His connection with Avery just didn't seem real. From the second he met her, she was doing nothing but getting him in trouble. At work she was asking him to do things that could get him fired, after work she got him robbed at gun point. I mean this is not someone that I would fall for. Luckily, the romance aspect of this book was not the main focus at all, and Ethan was a nice guy so the kind of fast and forced romantic interest did not deter me from loving the historical mystery part of the book. I am hoping we will get to know Ethan better in the next book and I won't have this disconnect with him and Avery anymore.

The mystery overshadows everything else in this story. Which is just the way I wanted it. And I really loved how the author turned this book into a really awesome sounding series. This is going to be a must read series for me. I can't wait to see what Avery's next research topic is going to be. We get a hint of the general area at the end of this story and I am excited!

Blood Bond by Heather Hildenbrand
ebook, 347 pages
Published August 31st 2012 by Accendo Press
Genres: Young Adult Paranormal
Series: Dirty Blood #3
Source: ecopy from Author
Summary:
Hybrids.
If I had to choose one word to sum up all of my problems, this would be it.
Without hybrids, I wouldnt have to watch my best friend slowly becoming a monster. Without hybrids, I could let go of the mentality hunt or be hunted. CHAS wouldnt be scouring the Earth, intent on slaughtering and using Alex to do it. Without hybrids, I wouldnt have to be on guard that losing my temper meant losing my shape. There would be no monster inside me, struggling to get out.
Then again, without hybrids, I wouldnt have Wesley St. John.
My Thoughts
Note: Blood Bond is the Third book in the Dirty Blood Series. You can find out more about the  series, Dirty Blood HERE
Heather Hildenbrand continues to surprise me with the dirty blood series. This book took the storyline to a whole other level. So much was going on, I am still trying to wrap my head around all of it. This is a great series. Blood Bond is really a book of discovery and answers in this series. Tara learns so much about herself, and we learn even more about CHAS and the hunter/werewolf society. A great installment in one of my favorite series.

I am so pleasantly surprised with how Tara handled herself in this book. She was on information overload. Seriously, I have no idea what I would have done if I had half the bombs that she had dropped on her. But she has really grown and she is so strong. I really admire her strength. And I love that Alex recognizes that strength and bravery in her. Blood Bond was much more focused on werewolf and hybrids than it was on the Wes Tara Alex love triangle, and while I missed my Tara and Alex moments from the second book, I was happy that the romance is not the main focus. Because now I can still hold out hope for Alex. I just love him. I like Wes too, but there is something about Alex and Tara. I think they push each other to be better. But even though Tara likes Alex, she is all about Wes. I am really pushing hard for this one to turn out my way, but I think I might be on the losing end of this love triangle. To be continued, I suppose.

The action is nonstop in Blood Bond. Tara has to deal with the George issue left over from the last story, plus she meets a crazy recluse scientist that holds lots of answers for her. And the crazy hybrids created by Miles pop up with a new master. All of these things get dealt with in this one book. Like I said, NON-STOP ACTION! I loved every second of it. I was on the edge of my seat- I couldn't read the pages fast enough. The ending killed me though. I need to read the next book to get to the bottom of it. I have a feeling there is much more than meets the eye with what happened. This is a must read series for anyone that likes paranormal books.
