Hollie Porter is the chairwoman of Generation Disillusioned: at twenty-five years old, shes saddled with a job she hates, a boyfriend whos all wrong for her, and a vexing inability to say no. Shes already near her breaking point, so when one caller too many kicks the bucket during Hollies 911 shift, she cashes in the Sweethearts Spa & Stay gift certificate from her dad and heads to Revelation Cove, British Columbia. One caveat: shes going solo. Any sweethearts will have to be found on site.
Hollie hopes to find her beloved otters in the wilds of the Great White North, but instead shes providing comic relief for staff and guests alike. Even Concierge Ryan, a former NHL star with bad knees and broken dreams, cant stop her from stumbling from one (mis)adventure to another. Just when Hollie starts to think that a change of venue doesnt mean a change in circumstances, the island works its charm and she starts to think she might have found the rejuvenation she so desperately desires. But then an uninvited guest crashes the party, forcing her to step out of the discomfort zone where she dwells and save the day and maybe even herself in the process.
My Thoughts
This book is so much fun. It is just the kind of cute romantic comedy that I needed. I instantly fell in love with the super chivalrous and teasingly funny Ryan. (Even though I figured out most of his secrets, he was so sweet that I was rooting for him from the first time we met him.) and Hollie was a trip. She was so funny. She has such a big personality, but she manages to make it come off as endearing and not brash, so you can't help but fall in love with her.

I loved the resort setting and I really, really loved Hollie's fascination with Otters. I myself think otters are adorable little furballs. And don't even get me started on when they hold hands- I lose it! Hollie likes them even more than I do. She watches all kind of documentaries about them and has figurines...the whole nine yards. Must love Otters starts out with a peak into Hollie's lackluster relationship with Keith. I have no idea how she put up with him for 2 years. Holy cow the last week or so was enough for me to be completely sick of him. But then she dumps him and takes a little break from everything and that is when the story really gets good.

Most of the story takes place over her one week stay in Canada at a spa resort out in the middle of nature. Concierge Ryan is kind of the go to guy there. He seems to do everything. But there is also Miss Betty to fall in love with. That lady is super sweet, and darn it, I want to try some of her jam! There are plenty of hi-jinks fun that add to the comedy element of the romcom. Hollie is hilarious. She seems to think almost solely in stereotypes. When she first got to Canada she was surprised that she wasn't just handed a cup of maple syrup, for example. Plus, there is plenty of hockey talk in this story, which is also right up my alley.
The real magic of the story is watching Hollie find herself and find something special in her life. She is such a cool woman that you just want her to find that missing piece and happy. The romance is nice, slow and perfectly developed, and it doesn't even start out with Ryan as the main interest. Everything works out in the end, and there isn't even really a love triangle. Just some bumps along the road. I loved Must Love Otters. And don't worry- there are otters in this story for your coo-ing and awh-ing pleasure. Fans of Romantic Comedies and contemporary romance need to check this book out.
